🧭 KanPas Adventure Compass — MS Baseplate (Southern Hemisphere)
The perfect first compass for learning real navigation
The KanPas Adventure is a strong, easy-to-use baseplate compass designed for beginners, students and outdoor learners. Built with a deeper capsule and a thicker 4 mm baseplate, it’s tougher than most entry-level compasses — making it ideal for schools, Scouts, Duke of Ed groups and first-time navigators.
Balanced for the Southern Hemisphere, it delivers reliable, accurate bearings across Australia and New Zealand, helping students learn correctly from day one.
🎒 Built for Learning & Field Use
This compass has everything a new navigator needs — without unnecessary complexity:
-
Rotating degree dial for setting and following bearings
-
Clear measuring scales — mm, 1:50,000, 1:25,000 and 1:10,000
-
Luminous markings for low-light use
-
Rounded, 4 mm thick baseplate for strength and safe handling
-
Declination scale inside the capsule for accurate map alignment
-
Detachable lanyard to prevent loss
It’s a real navigation tool — just simplified for learning.
🌏 Southern Hemisphere Accuracy
All KanPas Adventure compasses are MS (Magnetic South) models, meaning:
-
The needle stays flat and stable
-
Bearings are accurate
-
They are tuned specifically for Australia & New Zealand
Using a Northern Hemisphere compass here leads to tilted needles and poor accuracy — this one is built for our magnetic zone.

🧭 How to Use — 3 Simple Steps
STEP 1
Place the compass on the map and align the baseplate’s direction lines with your intended route. Make sure the direction-of-travel arrow points toward your destination.
STEP 2
Rotate the capsule so the red north arrow is parallel with the map’s north-south grid lines. The red end of the needle must point to north on the map.
STEP 3
Lift the compass and turn your body until the needle lines up with the north arrow inside the capsule. The direction-of-travel arrow now points straight toward your destination — choose a landmark and start moving.
⚠️ Care & Storage
To keep your compass accurate and reliable:
-
Avoid storing near phones, magnets or metal objects
-
Do not expose to extreme heat or cold
-
Store flat when not in use
Incorrect storage can cause the needle to lose magnetism or the capsule to develop bubbles.
